Brief Description:  Rib Setup

Continued drilling and clecoing the forward stiffener angles to the ribs and left wing spar. As noted in the Builder’s Manual, the bolt holes in the stiffener angle needed to be elongated to allow the stiffener to fit tightly against the rib. Rather than file them with inconsistent results, I used Whitney sheet metal punch with a 7/32” punch and die.

By inserting the stiffener hole into the punch , closing the dieset with very light pressure, then pulling the dieset towards the edge of the angle until the centering nib on the punch stopped against the edge of the hole, I was able to elongate the hole by a consistent 0.060”. Care needs to be taken to be sure the hole is elongated straight toward the edge of the angle to maintain the centerline distance between the two holes in the stiffener.

Riveted the stiffener angles to the ribs for the left wing.

Continued marking rib centerlines and straightening ribs for the left wing.
