Brief Description: Tom Clark fastback - canopy frame
Getting back into building now that Jackie is back from the UK. Took a while to get my brain back into gear. Spent the time this evening making the inserts for the aft butt joints of the canopy frame where the new aft bow joins the existing Vans frame sides. Could really do with a lather sometimes, but it is amazing what you can do with a high-speed drill press, some files, some emery cloth and a whole load of patience (and a steady hand)!
I also noticed this evening that the forward ribs are welded to the inside of the frame, and these catch on the new TC F-807 bulkhead as the canopy slides aft. Looks like I might need to also cut those out and re-weld them slightly outboard to gain sufficient clearance. Damn, there goes another evening, at least. This canopy frame is taking a significant amount of work; I just hope the canopy fits ok after all this.
