Brief Description:  Instrument panel design

I took the day off work today to go skydiving as they had 23 tandems. What did I get? Zip; cloud and wind all day; what a waste :-( Ah well, thats skydiving (and aviation) for you...

When I got home, since I was unable to do the rudder pedals, I started to look at the instrument panel starting, of course, with the two main screens. As you will see, a dual AF-3400 vertical setup just isn't going to fly(!) so that leaves side-by-side or .

Well, as a side-by-side install they look okay in isolation but what about the rest of the equipment like the GTX-327, PMA9000EX, Garmin 396 w/gizmo, DigiFlight IIVS, AoA Pro and backup guages? Not to mention the various switches, circuit breakers, annunciators, etc, etc. There's not a whole lot of space left around the panel to fit those things when you conside the joins in the three parts of the panel.

However, two Dynon units fit real nice just as I like. The new ones are also much nicer that the ones I looked at well over 18 months ago. Not only that, but I saw a D180 in a gyrocopter this last weekend and was pleasantly surprised at how nice it looked. I may have to re-evaluate my orginal thoughts, especially considering that Dynon now also have the HS34 unit which provides additional functionality and ease-of-use, and they're cheaper, of course...
