Brief Description:  Whelan strobe power supply

Well, I passed the exam I've been studying for this week. Only four more to go! :-(

When I got home, I celebrated by figuring the where and how of installing the Whelan strobe power supply. I had made a note ages ago about where some other builders had put it, so I did the same: in front of the F-808 bulkhead, between the longerons and aft of the baggage bay, nect to the battery. Its nicely out of the way there.

I made up a couple of angles, drilled them to the longerons and drilled them for nutplates. The upper angle will be fixed to the longeron with AN426AD3 countersunk rivets since the upper baggage tray needs to sit right on top of it. The lower one simply uses AN470s. I found that the longerons themselves are not plumb vertically, so the upper angle is bent together slightly, while the lower one is spread apart slightly. This will allow the .063" mounting plate to sit flat against the two angles. Unfortunately, I don't have any .063 right at the moment (some is coming with the finishing kit). I also had to make a crescent shaped cut-out in the upper angle so that it nestles around an existing nutplate, and radius the inner edge so that it fits better against the inside radius of the longeron. All this is why what seems like a simple job actually took an hour and a half!
