Brief Description:  Ground adj. rudder pedals

After priming the rudder pedal tracks yesterday, and with skydiving cancelled today, again, I was able to rivet the tracks into the fuselage using the blind rivet callouts on dwg #OP3. I then discovered that I was missing the called out info from DWG #34 (must be part of the finish kit).

Many thanks to Bill Woods who responded to my VansAirforce forum request for the missing information on how the brake cylinders attach to the rudder pedals. Bill was kind enough to photograph and email the relevant info from DWG #34 which I don't have. I was thus able to continue, and I now have working rudder pedals; yay! I did have to substitute a bolt callout, though, as I am missing the correct ones. I'll get the replacements next time I need to order hardware & stuff.

The next task is to work on the brake system. I got as far as installing the Alex Petersen Reservoir Dog onto the brake resevoir and bolting the reservoir to the firewall. The dog (http://www.reservoirdog.alexap.com/) is like a ball valve dohicky that prevents leakage from the reservoir when inverted. I stopped here for several reasons. Firstly, the Grove gear has gundrilled brake lines so will need different fittings and brake line routing than stock Vans; since they are not installed I don't know what I need. Second, I'll be installing a parking brake, the valve for which is due to arrive with the finish kit, so I can't start that either. And third, the drawings show the lines going through the lightening holes in the inboard face of the gear towers; I have mod'd the gear towers and have a full cover plate so no holes; my lines will need to go through the forward face somewhere but where?

So, since I need to study for exams for the next week or so, I guess that will be 'it' for a while. Next job to tackle, I think, will be aft fuselage stuff (like ELT tray, static port & tubes, etc) and then look at that big, scary Tom Clark kit :-O !!!
