UPDATE: having completed work for the day, I found I was still bothered by the 'not exactly perfect' control system. As a result, I took another look at it. The holes in the rear stick mounting bracket still do not align quite right on the floor ribs, and putting the floor panels in doesn't help any (nor does it hinder). After playing around with it a while I determine that the holes on one side (either side will do) need to be slotted as shown. I have no idea how this occured, since everything was match drilled during assembly as per instructions/plans, but nonetheless this is what I am faced with. I have emailed the photo to Vans to see whether slotting the holes is acceptable but if not (and I feel it isn't), then I shall purcahse a new mounting bracket, preferably undrilled so I can make it exactly right. The original ones come with two holes pre-drilled, one per side, and since it is mostly a side-to-side issue this would not really help as much as if I get an un-drilled bracket. Like I said in the last post, it is probably 'good enough' but I'm not happy with it and since I'll have servos for electric trim and possibly auto-pilot I want it perfect; years of model flying showed me that binding controls are not a good recipe...
