Brief Description:  Andair fuel selector

The fuel pump, filter and selector arrived from Vans today, but the bending and flaring tools from Avery did not. As it happens, I spent the whole evening fitting the Andair fuel selector anyway...

First thing I noticed was that there was no way that the existing F-883-1 fuel selector bracket was going to be able to take the Andair FS20x20-3 fuel selector. I would have to make a new bracket. I had some .040 trim stock so I formed it into a wider channel (the flanges provide stiffness) to take the Andair. Of course, at the inboard end it is restricted by two nutplates on the underside of the mid-cabin brace, so I had to create a 'tongue' (with its own flanges) to fit under there. All in all it came out reasonably ok.

Finally, I wasn't happy with edge distance of one of the #8 screws at the outboard end: this is a direct result of not thinking things through carefully enough when I originally drilled the #19 holes through the F-844 auxilliary longeron. To help alleviate any future issues, I made a little angle bracket from .025 that I had left over from an unused home-made elevator skin stiffener replacement (that didn't work out). This angle traps the fuel selector bracket between itself and the longeron and is held by three of the 3/32 rivets that come through from the side skin.So now if the edge distance causes the bracket to crack, it will still be held securely in place by the bracket (and teh remaining #8 screw, of course).
