Brief Description:  Fuselage disassembly

Well, mojo is just not with me these days and its one mistake after another. Why? Dunno? Overworked? Tired? Too busy? Any excuse will do. I don't mind as such; everything is fixable, but it just costs delay and money. Just as well I'm in no rush, huh?

Anyway, two mistakes today, one minor and one probably less so.First I machine countersunk the F-822 bottom skin holes where the skin and center section join. Then I made my first mistake which was not checking the edge distance when drilling the F-883 fuel valve bracket through the F-844-R auxiliary longeron. Lucky me I only pilot drilled #30, and I was able to 'walk' the hole over when drilling out to final #19. Having said that, edge distance is 'ok' but I'd rather a little more and the hole in the bracket is a little oval shaped. For now, it'll do.

The second, and arguably more important mistake is the drilled holes in the F-844-R right-side auxiliary longeron. As you can see in the picture, the holes have wandered down to the lower edge, well away from the center line, and blowing away any chance of sensible edge distance. I suspect a new part will be needed, or drill additional holes to compensate. If thats the case, I'd rather pay for a new part, despite the cost (and freight, ouch!). If I order a new one of these, then I may as well order a new F-883 and sort that out too.

UPDATE: a new longeron is US $16.50 and a new fuel valve bracket US $6.35 so I've decided to just go ahead and order new ones. Actually, I'm not sure I can better the F-883-1, since the overriding factor will be the existing hole in the longeron, but I may as well get a new one and try.

I also came up with a reason for the constant mistakes; its the constant mistakes. No, wait, work with me on this: I keep having to wait so long for parts that a) I get out of the groove, and b) I want to get stuck straight in when the parts arrive and don't think carefully enough. Of course, I like to make sure everything is just right, since my butt will be in this thing, so these mistakes are
