Brief Description:  Center section

Rivetted the aft center section parts together today. Jackie gave me a hand in a couple of places. Specifically, the top three rivets of the angled seat support brackets, since I used the offset rivet set for those ones and I find it hard to control single-handed. It went relatively well, with one or two niggles.

I found the easiest way to set the AN426AD4 flush rivets that sit behind the vertical center section bars was to squeeze them using the longeron yoke. The hardest to set were the AN426AD4-14 rivets that hold those vertical center section bars in place. At first, Jackie and I tried bucking normally with the mushroom/flush set on the flush head of the rivet. That didn't work out to well; I ended up drilling three of them out. Now I'm quite good at drilling out rivets but even I amazed myself by getting those log rivets out without damage! Anyway, take my advice and get a helper to assist in back-rivetting those long rivets; much, much easier. Oh, and yes, the rivets are a little short!

Having completed all the rivetting, I simply couldn't help but assemble the two center section halves and then cleco them to the forward floor assembly. Unfortunately I don't have my spar spacers yet so I can't get any further with the center section just now. Maybe later I'll sort out all the parts for the floor rib assembly (the next section in the book). Fuselage is beginning to take shape nicely though :-)
