Had a good day today. First of all I sanded and smoothed from last night's glasswork. Then I fitted the nutplates to the light mount cutout. Next I drilled and countersunk all the holes for the #6 screws and nutplates that will hold the wing tip to the wing. After all the sanding and shaping was done, I mixed up some primer and re-primed the reinforcing strips where in places I had sanded off the previous primer. Looks much better now. After cleaning up, I received a text from my friend and he had managed to score a small piece (approx 2ft square) of 2024T3 .040 Alclad for me. Sweet. I popped round to his place and grabbed it (cheers Chris!), and got on with making up the light mount plates for both the right and left wing. Rather than use #6 screws and nyloc nuts to hold the light on, I think I now have sufficient space to mount a nutplate on the back of the plate. That'll have to wait for now since I first need to drill for the nutplate and then primer the plate. Since I missed today's priming session that is a small task that will need to wait until next time. Having made the mount plate, I then fitted it to the wing tip, holding the light in place with some 1/8" clecos for now. ... more ...
