Brief Description:  Right aileron installation

Two and a half hours, three mistakes and a lot of frustration and all I achieved was getting the aileron fitted and the bellcrank fitted. Spent quite some time staring at the drawings trying to figure things out. The first mistake I made was to ream one of the brass bushings badly to the point where it is no good. I had very carefully positioned it and clamped it in my drill press. I guess when I tightened the clamps it went out of vertical, so I ended up with an oval hole at one end. That went in the bin, and I did the next one in the vice by hand a whole lot better. A new one has been ordered. The second mistake was cutting the wrong piece of aluminium tube when making the 3/8" bushing for the inboard aileron braket. I've ordered a new one of those too! The third mistake was not holding the end of the aileron when easing the bolt back a bit to get a washer in there: you can guess the rest. It's only a small dent, right on the nose and can't easily been seen: I think I'm going to leave it: it adds character! Incidentally, if you haven't got this far yet: two pieces of advice. To get the aileron bellcrank installed, you *will* have to remove the bellcrank brackets that you so carefully previously fitted and torqued up. Secondly, Avery washer wrenches and a 1/8" pin punch make putting the aileron on a whole lot easier: push the punch through the assembled brackets feeding it the washers as you go, then push the punch out using the bolt. Ta-da!! Maybe tomorrow night I'll make better progress. I need to make that aileron alignment jig thingy and get these pushrods fitted...
