Brief Description:  Skeleton assembly (left wing)

I cannot believe it just took two and a quarter hours to reassemble the wing skeleton with clecos!! First, I cut off all the tags I had used to identify the ribs during priming and drew on the correct number with a marker pen. Next, I decided to shorten the aluminium angle that bolts to the outboard rib since I noted on Dan C's website that the skin overlaps that outboard rib and he had to cut notches in the bracket. I wanted to reduce the liklihood of that so shortened the bracket. And here's where the real fun started: the M5 bolts I was using to bolt the rib to the bracket (through the tooling holes) were old ones and the threads were questionable to say the least. The first bolt went ok, but the second one wouldn't tighten. And it wouldn't come back off either - I had to cut it off with the dremel. I removed the bracket, checked for damage, got another bolt & nut and replaced the bracket. Only to have the second bolt (the other 'original' bolt) do exactly the same thing - luckily I was able to re-enage the thread and get the nut to back off. In went a second new bolt and nut. In shortening the bracket I had to make another mounting hole to get it to mount securely to the 'arm' of the jig, and then make a spacer to clamp between the two angles so there was no rotation. Finally, got the ribs all re-assembled to the spar, ran a string and levelled the whole thing up with a hydraulic bottle jack. Phew!! Funny how sometimes the little things turn out to be such a pain in the ass!
