Brief Description:  Fitting the canopy - SIKA time!

...continued! :-)

So after a bite to eat, we made the big decision. Let's SIKA!

This is something of a time-critical job, so I wanted to make sure we were both ready to rock-and-roll and 'go the distance' before we got started. So while I was sorting out the stuff we'd need, Jackie used the SIKA 205 cleaner on the canopy and the frame.

When she was done with that, and after a roughly 1o minute drying time per the instructions, I got out the SIKA 209 primer (black) and applied to the canopy and then the frame. This took longer than expected. The primer is quite runny when you first put it on so you need to be careful not to let it drip or run, but it goes tacky pretty quickly. With that done, quick cup of tea and a 15min wait before we go head-to-head with the icky stuff.

SIKA 295UV. The cousin of proseal, I think. Really messy to work with, gets everywhere, requires lots of tissues and latex gloves. Acetone cleans it up nicely. Anyway, between us we tag-teamed using the gun to apply the SIKA; it doesn't flow that easily and soon pumps the forearms. Whoever wasn't on the gun was using a popsicle to smooth the fillet between the canopy and the frame and also peeling the first layer of tape off. That wasn't as easy as we though; the clamps were in the way and we had to be careful not to lift the layer underneath. Anyway, we got it done, all the tape off, all the clamps in place, cleanup and and left for 24hrs to set. Removing the clamps sure is going to be a nerve-wracking moment!
