Brief Description:  Left flap, top skin

Drilled the top skin to the skeleton tonight. Jackie popped in later on and of course I put her straight to work on the cleco's while I went for it with the drill. Wasn't sure whether to pre-bend the top skin trailing edge in the bending brake before drilling and clecoing that last line on the bottom surface. I did some research on the internet but came up empty. First I tried clamping the skin using some 1/2" strips of wood on the top and bottom surface over the top of each rib. I tried several combinations but every time I checked the clamping introduced a definite curve to the trailing edge. In the end, I simply held the skin down while Jackie drilled and cleco'd one hole at a time. We got the middle bay done this way, working alternately outwards one hole either side. Then Jackie went back to the cleco's while I did the drilling, again one hole either side as we worked outwards each way. When we got the the end three holes where the end ribs I, I worked alternately from the rib to the skin overlap into the corner. And now the moment of truth: with all holes drilled and cleco'd we sighted along the trailing edge: straight - phew!! Done for tonight. Tomorrow I'm going to pop over to see Phil, and while I'm there I'll make use of my DRDT-2 that I lent to him to dimple the left flap and right aileron skins. Then when I get back I'll need to make a start on fabricating the brackets. I won't be able to do too much after Saturday since I have a Microsoft certification exam on Wednesday afternoon. I don't doubt I'll pass, but I like to get at the very least 85% or more, preferably around mid-90's. To do this I'll just need to re-familiarise myself with some of the more esoteric stuff and exam question technique. After that's out of the way I need to start thinking about my VMware exam at the end of the month too! If things are a little slow in here over the next few weeks, you know why. Man, I don't have enough hours in my days!! :-)
