Brief Description:  Wing skeleton

Got seven of the main ribs rivetted to the main spar this evening, working from the outboard end towards the inboard end (excluding the very end one which gets rivetted in assembly with the end leading edge rib). Out of the 35 rivets driven I had to drill out three that I wasn't happy with. The first two photos are an indication of the good ones. One of the bad ones was *really* bad: I got distracted for just that instant of time it takes for the cupped head to jump off the rivet and work its way across the rivet and onto the rib. It was absolutely mangled and the rib flange has a big smile in it to. I wasn't able to drill that one from the manufactured head side so I went *very* carefully from the shop head side; I still cannot believe I managed to get the rivet out without further damage, but then again, I was going VERY carefully and with a smaller drill bit. Once I broke out of the manufactured head I used the hole as a pilot hole to go in with a #30 and snap the mangled head off as you would normally. Out she came. I then did the same on the driven head and pushed out the remainder with a punch. Nice clean job. I rubbed down the smile on the rib as best I could and then stuck another rivet in there. Finally primered the whole thing; I'll get a photo tomorrow for the log and update this entry, but the photo I took looks awful with the rattle can primer still wet!! I must have been getting tired since I then smiled (though not badly) the very next rivet. At that point I called it quits for the night before I wrecked anything else!
