Brief Description:  Left Fuel Tank: Started Riveting

Well, I took the plunge today and started riveting my fuel tank. Big step for me, but so far it has been relatively painless. It's always like that...read, read, read, study the plans, review the websites, and then just pull out the rivet gun and go for it. Easy.

Before riveting I completed pro-seal on the remaining ribs. I was able to rivet and buck myself on the end-rib, but I'm waiting for Joe Kollar to stop by tomorrow to help with the rest. Actually, all I need to get done is the other half of the one I started, and the one next to it. The remaining three ribs can be done Monday. That would give each rib two days to setup with the Pro-Seal.

I made a big deal about cleaning the excess pro-seal from each hole following cleco'ing, but that proved unfounded as well. The sealant sets up nicely, and even after two days it is very easy to pull free from each rivet location. I was using a 3/32 punch to clear each hole and verify alignment. I then dipped a spot of Pro-Seal on the rivet hole, and placed a recently cleaned rivet in the hole using some needle-nose to avoid getting skin oils on the rivet. Seemed to work, but who knows for sure? The proof will be the leak test.
