Brief Description: Stiffeners Dimpled and Fuel Flange Drilled/Counter
Have been spending more time driving back and forth to my hangar for tools than I have actually building lately. The cold weather here in OH is driving me to work in my basement.
Two items accomplished tonight. First, I dimpled the Left Tank Stiffeners with my hand-held riveter from Cleveland. Very easy for sure. Haven't quite figured out how to get compressed air from my garage to the basement yet, so working in manual mode for now.
Also mounted the Fuel Cap Flange on the left tank. It's easier to line up with the cap installed, so that's how I checked alignment. My challenge was clamping it down. Ended up going to Home Depot for a big C-Clamp for the far side. I also used a cheap tool that I bought at Harbor Freight to clamp the closer edge. Once centered it was just a matter of drilling/cleco'ing. Turned out perfect.
Last, I countersunk the holes on the fuel tank flange. To provide a guide for the counter-sink bit I glued two tongue depressors together and drilled three holes to match the flange. Hard to describe, but I ended up pivoting the stick to accomodate two holes at a time. Crude but effective. Will save this thing for the right tank as well.
