Brief Description:  Working the Fuel Tanks

This one post is really three or four visits to the hangar wrapped into one.

To summarize, I drilled both tanks using the #40 reamer and a #41 drill. That worked out very well and the hole-quality was greatly improved. Before doing so, I had to purchase another 240 cleco's as my supply was disappearing rapidly. In fact I might order some more sometime soon as doing both wings in parallel consumes them all!

I also did the countersinking of the holes that will hold the baffle plate. That took a while as i still seem to have issues with the countersink tool. In the future the solution might be to clean it out after every hole. I feel that stray scraps of shavings are getting in there greatly increasing the cut.

Over the last couple of days I've fabricated the T-705 leading edge brackets for the inboard rib. This was fun as I like building things from raw materials. Unfortunately, I could not find the matching T-710 pieces that go on the other side of the rib for reinforcement. I had to order those from Van's, along with the new Proseal compund.

Think I'll do a flop-tube on the left tank, so that's making this phase somewhat confusing. Time to jump on the VAF site to figure out what others are doing.

Finally, this afternoon I removed the right-wing z-brackets for priming. Good thing as I found a lot of shavings under each bracket...the result of drilling them to match a few weeks ago.

Off to DC tomorrow, so won't get much done until next weekend.
