Brief Description:  Rivet Horzontal Stabalizer

Well, it's been a while since a log entry so trying to get caught up. We were floored with 22" of snow two weeks ago so the airport and hangar were off limits, and last week I was on vacation up in Michigan.

In the meantime, we've done a lot of work on the Horizontal Stabalizer. Over three sessions this month, it's almost done. Tonight I finished the rivets on the right-side stabalizer, and tomorrow I plan to complete the left. Then this weeked I hope to rivet the rear-spar along with the edge ribs HS-706.

Learning a LOT about riveting. Almost ready to give up on the gauge to check rivet quality and just go by feel. It's a pain getting your arm in the stabalizer anyway, not to mention using the little tool to measure rivet quality. So far I've only had to drill out one rivet. A few have been over driven, but nothing extreme. For the most part I've found a pressure just under 40psi seems to work with this 3x gun. And masking tape over the factory head seems to keep the damage down.

Am considering a re-prime inside the stabalizer to cover mars left by the bucking bar. Maybe that's going overboard. Or maybe a quick spray of Corrosion-X might be good. Will have to check the message boards.

Hard to believe this is starting to look like an airplane. Jeremy came in this weekend and prepped some vertical stabalizer parts for priming, and he and Katie helped get the rivets on the left side started. It's nice to have extra hands, especially small ones.

Will have to start thinking about where to store this assemble once complete. It's long and very awkward.
