I used a strong cord and fed it through the trailing edge of the right hand flap then suspended it from above to help me position it with the proper gap between and even to the aileron set at its neutral position. I used a clamp at each end of the hinge to hold everything in place. Then I marked the hinge with a thin sharpie and removed the pin and flap. I double checked the hinge maintained the proper position and installed cleco clamps along its length. I started drilling from the center of the hinge working outwards in both directions, clecoing as I went. The hinge did not move and the gap and final position lined up perfectly.
