Darcy was over this morning for a few hours helping with alignment and wing incidence settings. I finally got up the nerve to drill the aft spar attachment points. I used drill bushings to keep the holes square to the work and stepped up from 3/16 to 1/4 to a final reamed size of 5/16. Thankfully the holes are perfectly square to the spar stubs and there is more than adequate edge distance. I ended up with perfect triangulation, 3mm of forward wing sweep (both wings) and the same incidence set on both left and right hand wings. The only anomaly is the left hand flaps trailing edge is about 5 mm lower (when in trail with a neutral aileron) than the same point on the right hand flap. I spoke to Ken at Van’s about this who assured me this is not uncommon and is acceptable. He said as long as the aft bolt edge distance is correct and the wing incidence, sweep and triangulation are equal on both sides the flap/fuse interface can be off a little. The flap to fuselage fairing hides this area anyway. I'm glad this critical step is done.
