Brief Description:  Rivet left elevator

Rivet top of spar. Rivet lower stiffners to skin. This is the way to do it! Once again I mounted the strips to the skin and clamped them to the bench. I used the board and brace setup from the other elevator to hold the skin open to rivet the spar. This worked much better this time. Rivet the counterbalance assy to the spar. This is much harder than it sounds. The rivets are not easy to get to and I used a piece of brass bar that was thin enough to get into the small slot available to get the back side of the rivet bucked. Rivet the lower skin to the spar using the combination of 3/32 and 1/8 rivets. Riveted the trim spar and the corner brace.

Oh, I had to fab another corner gusset. IF you make the lower gusset EXACTLY as per the plans AND you can place the bend EXACTLY in the center AND you can center and hold the gusset EXACTLY in the right place and drill the holes to match the spar and rib THEN you will only have to make ONE gusset. Needless to say the second one was just a little longer and located a bit more towards the center of the holes. Then I cut it down to match the drawing. Much nicer the second time around. Riveting this gusset was another bit of work but with the correct modification of my new favorite brass bucking bar I ultimately got those bucked.

Installed the nutplates on the trim stiffner. I probably did several other steps but cannot remember all I did today. I got a lot done in the 8 hours. The photos show an almost complete elevator. Next is finishing the trailing edge.
