Brief Description:  Getting ready for close out

Last night trial fitted the right elevator upper skin, and found out that the plans for the elevator spar are (gasp) not exactly right. Most of the elevator spar is attached to a part of the upper skin that includes core material. That is except for the last two to three inches, where the core ends, and the spar must meet the upper skin. The plans, however call for a staight, but tapered spar. No allowance is made for the last threee inches of the upper skin. In any event, I had to add a bit of prepreg to the spar, and a bit of 6 bid to the inboard rib. What is shown below are the pieces mentioned simply bonded with flox. Tomorrow I will trim and reinforce with bid. I was hoping today to do the first upper skin fitting to the ribs and spar, but that will just have to wait.

One thing I could do today was to install the nutplates for the elevator horn, as shown below. By the way, these nutplates are K1000-4. Not much of a problem, but the kit contains neither the nutplates nor the AN4-5A bolts required. I happen to live about 44 miles from Aircraft Spruce East, so I did make a pilgrimage today, and picked up some more expoxy, foam and a couple more items.
