Spent a lot of time today refining earlier layups on the left elevator capstrip reinforcing, to take out faulty reinforcing, and placing new micro/flox fillets. Tomorrow I'll complete the capstrip reinforcing.
Also today, I temporarily fitted the upper skin to the lower on the right elevator. Then I fitted the right elevator to the horizontal stabilzer, to check fit and prepare for close-out. This process revealed a few necessary tweaks. First, I needed a little extra clearance to allow for the insertion of the hinge bolts. Also, I needed more clearnce for the upper hinge relief. In the end, the elevator fit pretty well. There is more than a .050 gap between the traililng edge of the hstab and the leading edge of the elevator, but really, is .050 a realistic gap?
Also, I found that I have over-balanced the elevator. That's ok, for the weight is fully accessable, and I can easily access the weight to remove enough lead to resolve the issue.
