Brief Description:  Rudder removed from the vertical.

Lines were drawn between the 1/8" holes that were drilled in both sides of the skin of the vertical while at the Builder's Assist program at Lancair. These holes were drilled 3/16" behind the hinge pivot line of the rudder hinges to identify where to cut when removing the rudder surface from the vertical.

A dremel was used to cut the skins on both sides of the rudder. Before closing the vertical at Lancair, bolts were placed in the hinges so the rudder wouldn't just fall when the skin was cut. So, in order to get the rudder off, small slots were removed in the joggle of the rudder to allow removal of the bolts. Once done, the rudder was removed.
