Ugh. Another setback. Today, I asked my wife to help me mount the right flap in order to line up the center hinge. Unfortunately, I found another area where the plans were not clear. When you install the hinges, it says to use spacers and shims, but never says where or why. Later in the plans, It has you line up the hinge center line holes and shim as required. I started with a baseline of no spacers, and shimmed when I lined up the holes. Unfortunately, without the large spacers under the hinges, the flap hangs up on the aft wing root attach fitting. So, removing hinges is not a problem, except for the one in the fuel tank. Consequently, I had to remove the fuel tank access panel in the 1st bay, then remove the AN-3 bolts, install longer bolts and add a spacer underneath the root hinge. Another plug for the rivet removal tool I purchased from Avery. As you can see in the photos, you can remove a rivet without enlarging the hole. The hard part was getting the chisel underneath the panel to start peeling it away. I made the access panels to fit tight -- ok but in the future, I'll frind a small indent to get a chisel underneath the cover. So -- another lost day.
