Brief Description:  Engine Mount Problem Solved

Today I finally figured out what the problem was with my engine mount. I had ordered a Type II Dynafocal mount for an O-540 from the manufacturer. What I received was a Type I mount. Type II mounts are built so they angle toward the prop hub of the engine, commonly used on Piper Aztec's. They are a 20 degree mount and the Lord mounts are thicker than others, and have a 2 inch hole on the ear. The Type I mount is angled 30 degrees and use a smaller ear on the O-540 and are pointed toward the center of the engine. The Lord rubbers are also a bit thinner, 2.1 inches vs. 2.7 inches. Consequently, the mount didn't align, although with great effort we did get the engine on.

I quickly posted a note on Vans Air Force Forum and got a note back from an individual and we are swapping my large ears for his smaller ears. The Harmon Rocket guys use the larger ears. I'll need to order a new set of Lord mounts, but should be able to sell mine for a small loss.
