Brief Description:  Completed Elevator

Today, I completed work on the elevator weights. However, the bolts per the plans were incorrect, too long, and I don't have the proper length bolts. Consequently, I left one side of the skin open (clecoed) and will wait until I have the proper bolts. In addition, I need a larger countersink for the bolts. You can see I added a backplate per the plans on the outside of the ribs. On the one shown, I used countersunk rivets. On the outside one, I used round headed rivets.

The second image shows a doubler I added to strengthen the joint between the aft and forward ribs on the outboard sides of the elevator. I made this from .020 6061. The final image shows the elevator completed except for final riveting. I will wait for the proper bolts and will need to decide how to attach my inspection covers. I'm leaning toward rivet nuts, but we'll see. The tool to install them is expensive.

Finally, I set out the parts for the rudder, and will begin that over the weekend.
