There is an outer sleeve that fits over the treaded axle like on a cub. The outer sleeve of 4130 does not come in exactly the correct ID to fit over the 1-1/2" axle. So heat is needed to expand the outer sleeve so it will fit over the axle. I also took the axles in to work and machined about .005 " off the axle so the outer sleeve would fit on better. Six holes were drilled in the outer sleeve. These, of course, needed to be drilled before the outer sleeve is slipped on to the axle. Once the outer sleeve is in place, rosette welds hold the two tubes in place.A pin was added to the V-block to help make sure the rosettes were on opposite sides of the tube. See Image 2.
