I remember whilst doing the research and looking at other websites noting the milestone of placing the wings in the cradle. I can vouch that it is a great feeling of achievement when you reach this stage - truly one of the milestones of the build project.
I followed the plans for the cradle except I added soft rubber castors with brakes (same as I used on my work island). This time I bought them from Homebase (new large store just built 400 metres from the house!). I also bought some pipe insulation (22mm dia - 13mm wall x 1 metre x 3) which fitted perfectly for each leading edge cut out on the 3/4" chip board, that was from Wickes - next door to the new Homebase - jolly decent of them to build them so close! The 4" x 2" was all recycled from the wing stand. I added 1/2" all round the aerofoil/spar cut out to accept the pipe insulation and it fitted like a glove.
It made a nice change working with wood; the build experience is definitely improving my skills as I never looked at the drawing once I started - the pre-planning had simply lodged into the grey matter and off I went - solo. Very satisfying.
