Brief Description:  Top skin on

With the rivetted skeleton attached to the wing stand, the centre jacked up using some threaded rod and the spar checked for zero twist (digital spirit level and plumb bob as per Drawing 12A) the top skins were cleco'd on (with the wing walk doubler taped in position) and the fit was great.

I may have gone OTT with the number of clecos (every other hole) but it made the drilling easier. One tip if you are considering building the two wings together you'll need at least 600 silver clecos - trust me.

This marks a new phase in the wing build as you now feel that you are making real progress even though there is the prospect of all that deburring to come!

Whilst waiting for more clecos for the bottom skin I went ahead and clecod the leading edge in the cradle. I made this from a loft board (the base was used in my empennage rudder/elevator jig). The width of the board is perfect and the vertical dimension and space between the two is as per Drawing 12A. This works really well as you can rotate it and work on its side with the clecos in position. I followed the instructions for cleco order but I found when fastening the bottom section it came together better from aft to forward. Look at the leading edge skin join to the top skin - you cannot get a sheet of paper between them - what engineering - what a kit! The black marks are holes that have been drilled.
