Brief Description:  Cowl 12 - Side Hinges

DRILLED TOP SIDE HINGE.

Before drilling I checked that there was no pre-load on the bottom/top hinges (I used a strap to support the weight of the cowls)

Starting from the front I drilled against a small wood block for the first hole thereafter I found that the hinge stayed rigid. Checked inside for correct edge distance for first few holes.

MARKED THE AFT TRIM LINE.

You can see on the right side I had some spare material to trim on the bottom aft but none on the left side. This got me thinking "WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG?". I re-checked the spinnner gap slightly more than 1/4" - prop extension + spinner backplate/spinnner all seemd to be OK. I'll see what happens later but if all turns out well I must contact Vans because this was cutting it too fine!

If you'are wondering why the side hinge does not go all the way aft I fitted the aft hinges first using the dimensions/position in DWG 60 dated 2/10/06, as such they were a bit too high. Don't think it will have much effect as some of the top is also unsupported.

I noticed that the gap between the top/bottom sides was slighty off so took off the hinges and re-sanded with the board and very pleased now.
