The highlight of the Rally, and the main reason for going, was to meet the designer of my wonderful aeroplane - Richard "Van" VanGrunsven - strangely his first ever visit to the UK.
It was great to thank him in person for such a wonderful design and along with Ed Hicks who took the photo signed my photo book of Eds wonderful photo shoot
During a Q&A session after his keynote speech he was asked which was his favourite design. Like a parent with children he said he didnt really have a favourite .... he liked his 12 for commuting and his 10 for cross country but for fun ..... his 8 - to loud applause from all 8 owners in the audience ..... it's official then!
Every time I have attended the Rally I have always met someone from my dim and distant past - this one was no exception and I met Jason Shaw (now with Cathay Pacific) and he was an ex student from 1991 when I was his Flight Commander at RAF Linton On Ouse. He's thinking of an RV one day and it was great to show him JBTR and catch up - 25 years ago - frightening.
