After the LAA Rally in 2015 a local RV pilot bought a test pack of Aviation Shield - a surface protectant made by Airglide International using nano technology to provide a very smooth surface to make it difficult for debris to attach and easier to remove if it does.
The product will mean far fewer wet washes and easier cleaning using a micro fibre cloth and a Flyaway solution.
I wrote to Airglide to enquire about purchasing a pack and mentioned my air racing success and the involvement in Air Race Championship. I was delighted when one of the Directors invited me to meet him at Bornemouth with a view to entering into a partnership to promote Airglide in General Aviation.
On 31st March I flew down again for the Airglide team to dry wash with Step 1 then apply Step 2 to reveal the paint as it was when it came out of Mick Allens paintshop in August 2012 but with an incredibly smooth finish. So smooth masking tape will not adhere!
The biggest attraction of the product to me is the ease of cleaning (my back isn't the strongest) and keeping the leading edges and prop blades free of flies for air racing where every second counts - some races have been won by literally 1 second after 100 nm of racing.
