Brief Description:  Fitted lower rudder tip

The lower rudder tip was a little tricky to mount. I started out making measurements and drawing lines on the tip to cut to. I slowly removed material until the tip fit over the rudder control angle and fit flat on the rudder. Then, I started to look at it and saw that the tip was about 3/4" lower than the back of the fuselage. I decided that this would never do. I took the tip off and started to figure out how to mark and cut a tapered section of the tip off so that it would not be so low. I set the tip on the bench and shimmed it su that the back end was 3/4" high and the joint line was perfectly vertical. I then used a marker and a block of wood to draw a line 3/4" above the table surface all around the tip. This gave me the cut line. I then used a belt sander to sand down the tip to the line an finished up with a sheet of 150 grit sandpaper laid flat on the table top to make sure the joint was perfectly flat. Then, I had to rework the cutouts for the control angle. I sanded the parts to fit perfiectly. I also cut about 1/2" off the front edge of the tip to accomdate the wires for the trailing strobe light.
