Brief Description:  Shop preparation - bench top

I needed a really flat, level bench top and as a wood worker, I always admired maple bench tops. I decided to buy 100 board feet of hard maple to make a bench to for this project. The maple was ripped into 1 3/4" widths and laminated together to form three segments; each 16 inches wide by 9 feet long. These segments are bolted together underneath the table. I did this in case I ever need to move the table. The maple is quite heavy. In the top, I incorporated a hole to include a 3 inch thick granite surface plate. This comes in handy when straightening ribs and back riveting panels. I also built a cutout to insert my dimpler when I need it. A section of the table top slides out and the dimpler slides in so that the die is at table top height. When the dimpler is not in use, it is stored under the table. The table holds 13 - 24" deep drawers to hold small parts and hardware.
