After the junction is soldered, I add a heat shrink sheath around the joint to insulate it and prvoide some additional mechanical rigidity to the joint. I do this process to all 9 wires for the network connections. When joining wires that are part of a twisted pair, I try to maintain the twists up to the joints for each wire. Once all nine wire sets are joined, A add another layer of heat shrink over the whole works.
