Since the hinge pins need to extend out of the cowl at such an acute angle, I used a dremel tool with a tiny ball cutter to cut a grove extending from the hinge pin. I continued to cut until I broke through the front side forming a hole through the cowl. I opened up the hole enough to pass the pins through. Now I just have to glue the top hinge halves.
