In order to further assure that there is no binding in the horizontal hinge pins, I used .020" aluminum sheet material bent so that I could tape them on the sides about every 3 inches. I taped up the sides to ensure that the .020" gap was consisitent down the entire length of the seam. I drilled the holes in the top hinge pins in preparation for drilling the cowls. I put the hinge pins in and used the shim method one more time to take the play out. I then drilled the cowl, clecoed the hinges, and removed all the shims. The hinge pins came out easily, again.
