Practiced fillet welds on some Home Depot mild steel. Needed to extend the tungsten more for these I finally figured out. Lots of heat gets reflected back at the torch by the vertical piece as well. Started pretty ugly but improved with more welds. Contaminated the tungsten many many times with the rod and the puddle.
