Brief Description:  Lots of final preparation work

It's hard to believe a month has passed since my last posting. I have driven up to Perth (1.5 hours return trip) most days to do some work. The 100 hours effort is just a guess. Apart from the travlling time, interruptions to talk to others, help others, show others, have lunch etc. make these days rather (very) unproductive. I cannot imagine building an aircraft off-site.

Anyway, I guess all I can do is provide a list of what has been occupying me, with some comments where appropriate.

The wings have been on and off a couple of times. Once to install the rubber trim strip, and once to squirt ACF50 into the steel counterbalance tubes in the flaperons, and coat the wing slots with anti-seize paste. With the rubber trim in place the wings no longer slide together easily. Borrowing an idea from the web site, I am using luggage straps connected to the wing tiedown rings to winch the wings together. Works, but I hate seeing the side loads on the tiedown rings. In fact I bent one, later straightened in a vice. They will need to come off at least one further time for installing interior trim velcro under the spars, and possibly a further time to repaint the leading edge of one wing.

I obtained new bushings for the control columns as these are a little slack, particularly the drivers' one. I replaced the drivers' one, having carefully prepared it, with virtually no improvement. I'll just leave it and see how it works in practice. The only alternative is to ream out the cross tubes in the control columns and insert oversize bushings (which may have to be specially made). I'd also have to remove the sticks involving removal of the PTT wiring - I'm not up for this right now.
