Brief Description:  Prep parts for flight controls

Having done what I could with the wiring, I have now made a start on the flight controls.

Picture 1 shows a bunch of parts that I have prepared and are now ready for priming. The two tubes at the top of the picture are Control Stick Pushrods and need to be drilled out to size and then tapped.

Picture 2 shows my first attempt. I drilled a hole in a block of wood the same size as the tube, and pushed the tube into tgis to act as a jig to hold the tube upright. Inevitably, the drill made the tube rotate in the wood block. I tried putting on a rubber glove to hold the tube - big mistake, quick as a flash the glove wrapped itself around the drill bit. Fortunately all of the glove fingers ripped off before my own fingers got involved.

Picture 3 shows plan B. I held the tubes in the vice and drilled carefully with a cordless drill. Even then the drill but was prone to jam even with Boelube. Faster drill speeds, although counter-intuitive for me, worked better.

Tapping the drilled ends wasn't much fun either. The tap, which I had specially ordered, did not fit my T-piece properly, so lots of fiddling required to stop it slipping. However, I finally declared success.
