Brief Description:  Investigating the wing fit problem

I spent a lot of time considering why I had encountered such a significant problem. After checking the plans, it slowly dawned on me. I had put the spar rollers on the wrong way round. Murphy's way! It seemed obvious to me that the spar should roll on the larger diameter section of the roller. Wrong! The plans are in fact clear and correct, I had just second-guessed them. Five minutes later I had switched the rollers around, and it was now obvious that the wing had been at least 1/4 inch too high, hence the fuselage clearance issue, that should have been the early warning.

So it was yet another order placed with Vans for three replacement parts, and 700 rivets. I'm going to have to partially remove the wing skins to expose the spar structure. Now I am really nervous about the prospect of drilling out all these rivets without causing further damage.

In the remaining time today, I couldn't face doing anything creative, so I made a start filling rivet holes in the fuselage, giving me time to stew in my own juice. Not a good day.
