Section 24 is predominantly about installing the rollover bar and supporting structure. It is pretty substantial, consisting of four arcs of thick material to make a hoop. Reinforcement doublers join the left and right halves together, and two thick bands of aluminium join the fore and aft parts together, top and bottom. It was all a bit confusing at first so I trial fitted everything together. See Picture 1.
Some users had riveted everything together then found that the hoop would not fit in the retaining brackets on the fuselage. One or two folk had recommended match-drilling and riveteing in-situ to guarantee a good fit. That was good enough for me. So Picture 2 shows the hoop installed. At this stage I have not installed the nut plates to the base plates so I could not bolt the brackets in place. They just have bolts through the holes for alignment. The piece of string is holding the loop at the correct angle. With this set up I was ready to match drill the parts. The picture shows some of the 200 holes already done and clecoes inserted. Lots more drilling tomorrow!
I've hit the 700 hour mark today...still lots more to do on the fuselage, then three more kits to go.
