Having established why the first set of hinges didn't fit (the four holes where the hinge is attached to tailplane ribs), I finally got around to remaking these. Fortuantely I had spare hinge material.
This time I had no opportunity to match drill these tailplane rib holes as per the plans at Page 09-08 steps 1-3, because the skins are now riveted in place. However I was able to use the old hinges as templates, upside-down, which corrected the original error.
