Having primed everying apart from the replacement tailplane spars, I was able to make some progress. Here I have attached the top and bottom spar caps to the four ribs, and also attached the eight spar cap spacers. Mostly squeezed rivets in previously countersunk holes, with a handful of countersunk pop-rivets (another first) to make up the complement.
On completion, I added the front (condemned) spar and the rear (new) spar to check the fit. This allowed trial placement of the control horns. As reported elsewhere (on the VAF website) these don't fit too well, so I need to fabricate a shim to ensure a good fit. Fortunately the scrap rear spar is just the right thickness to come to the rescue.
