I spent an hour finding more space in the garage. The cement mixer and wheelbarrow have finally been dispatched elsewhere. They just don't belong in a workshop. Also managed to put the finished vertical stabiliser up in the rafters where it is safe and out of the way.
Lots of little bits today to prepare as much of the tailplane as I can, while awaiting replacement spars.
First up is four hinge stops made of slices cut from a piece of aluminium tubing.
To hold the tube in the vice, I needed to cut a V-shape in a couple of scraps of wood. Rough and ready, but worked fine.
These parts need to be accurate to 1/32 inch, or whatever that is in Euro-speak. I have a micrometer (remember those from school?) but of course it counts in millimetres. So mobile phone comes in handy as conversion between fractions of an inch and millimetres. Fortunately there's enough tubing to replace one piece that I ground down too enthusiastically, and ended up under-size.
