What a good feeling, finally rivetting something together. 250 rivets at this session. The deep-freezer top is pressed into service as an additional workbench.
Got a visit from Jim Devlin, who has purchased the only other RV-12 kit in the UK (and Europe), so far. Jim has relatives nearby, so took the opportunity to come and say hello.
I had another go at "improving" the countersinking on the tailplane spars. The more you take away the bigger it gets. What is it? Yes, a hole. So improvement is probably negative.
After looking at these pieces every time I go to the workshop, I finally mailed Vans today and asked for a quote for replacement front and rear spars. I'm just not comfortable installing parts that I consider to have poor workmanship. I don't have the experience to determine what is acceptable, so I have mentally condemned these parts.
I got a reply on 30th. Basically $50 for the parts and $100 for shipping!, so I ordered them up together with a replacement piece of piano hinge - another part I was less than happy with.
