Brief Description:  Preparing and dimpling the VS skins

Having learned how easily the alclad is scratched, I endeavoured to follow others' example and keep as much plastic coating as possible in place on the skins, for as long as possible. I removed the strips around the rivet holes with a round tip in a soldering iron. I thought this would be easy, but was quite a slow process. I was running the iron along a steel ruler which, I suppose, could have been conducting the heat away.

Another first - dimpling. Once I had figured out which dies to put into the squeezer, the dimpling itself was easy. Having read of some poor soul in VAF who had put the indents on the inside, I checked twice before squeezing. A mistake so easy for us novices to make. Squeezing the dimples was easy, and satisfying.
