First pop rivets hold the spar caps to the Vertical Stabiliser spar, two per side. The ones nearest the flange are too close to use the air rivet gun, so these were pulled with the narrow rivet puller - using the armstrong method. The inboard one can by pulled with the air gun.
So two firsts for me. The air gun is very easy to use. The manual puller less so. When the steel mandrel in the rivet finally breaks, it is very difficult to stop the rivet puller skidding across the metal, and removing the primer. Latterly, I put tape underneath, but this was only marginally more successful. I'll need to touch up the paint later.
